Residents in St. Catharines Ward 6 will be headed to the polls for a by-election on April 14th.
Nominations for candidates are open until February 28th, while interested candidates must meet a number of eligibility requirements, as well as pay a $100 fee.
To run for St. Catharines City Council on the day the nomination paper is filed, a person must be:
- a Canadian citizen
- at least 18 years of age
- an owner or tenant of land, or the spouse of the owner or tenant
- not legally prohibited from voting

A person must also provide 25 signatures of endorsement of your nomination at the time of filing. Follow these steps to complete this process:
- Please visit the Province of Ontario’s website
- Download “Form 2” (English – 017-2233e – Endorsement of Nomination – Form 2 or French – 017-2233f – Endorsement of Nomination – Form 2)
- Print off the form and obtain at least 25 signatures from eligible electros (we recommend obtaining more than 25 signatures in case some of the individuals who endorse your candidacy are not eligible electors)
The following people are disqualified from being elected to Council:
- a judge of any court
- a member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario or the Senate or House of Commons of Canada who has not resigned from their office by the close of nominations

The seat in Ward 6 has been vacant since the passing on Councillor Carlos Garcia late last year.
