Port Cares is facing a critical shortage as it prepares for the annual Port Colborne Lions Food Drive this weekend, and is turning to the public for support.
Last year’s drive collected 16,000lbs of food, much lower than the usual 26,000 to 30,000lbs.
In the last six months, the agency has spent nearly $100,000 purchasing food for distribution through the food bank as donations have dwindled and need has increased.
Residents are asked to leave non-perishable food items on their porches by 9:00am on Saturday to be collected by volunteers. Food should be collected by noon.
