The Northern Tornado Project has confirmed that a tornado touched down in Niagara Falls yesterday.
The group says the tornado touched around 4:00pm based on video and photo evidence, as well as radars in the area. Dr. Connell Miller says their investigation will take a few things into account.
A preliminary EF0 rating has been assigned to the tornado, however crews are still investigating damage in the area. It’s the fourth tornado this summer in the Niagara Region, after three in August.
The Northern Tornadoes Project (NTP), founded at Western University in 2017 with the support of social impact fund ImpactWX, aims to better detect tornado occurrence throughout Canada, improve severe and extreme weather understanding and prediction, mitigate against harm to people and property, and investigate future implications due to climate change.
