The District School Board of Niagara Education Centre will celebrate a group of infants turning one year old for their unique contributions to education.
These babies, along with their parents, have spent the past year teaching important lessons on feelings, respect, inclusion, infant development, and the bond between parent and child.
The celebration is part of the Roots of Empathy program, which involves monthly visits by an infant and parent to classrooms, where children learn to connect with and reflect on the baby’s emotions, fostering their own emotional development.
The internationally recognized and award-winning Program developed by social entrepreneur, educator, and author Mary Gordon, has been offered within Niagara’s classrooms since 2002. 33 classrooms are participating this year within District School Board of Niagara (DSBN) and Niagara Catholic District School Board (NCDSB), impacting over 600 students.
