Niagara Regional Police have arrested a man after an armed person call in Welland over the weekend.
Sunday just before 3:00pm, police were called to a plaza on Lincoln Street near Coverntry Road was reports of a woman being struck by an unknown male driver in the parking lot. A witness who followed the man back to a house on State Street was allegedly threatened with a knife.
The suspect then allegedly threatened officers with a knife and a bat, before going back into the home and brandishing a gun. As a result, a number of homes in the immediate area were evacuated by police as a precaution.
He then surrendered to police just after 4:00pm. 38-year-old James Hellam has been charged as a result.
