The Niagara Regional Police Service is proud to partner with the Municipal School Crossing Programs Committee of Niagara during the annual Ontario School Crossing Guard Appreciation Week that is occurring during the week of June 5th. The NRPS asks that members of our Niagara community and beyond, join in by celebrating School Crossing Guards across the Province of Ontario. Help the NRPS recognize the individuals throughout our municipality, whose assistance aids local residents with their safe daily commutes to and from school.
DID YOU KNOW?
As of January 1st, 2016, all vehicles and cyclists are required by the Ontario Highway Traffic Act to stop and wait until all pedestrians, including the Crossing Guard have cleared the entire roadway before proceeding?
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
- Stop when a Crossing Guard raises his or her stop sign.
- Take notice when a Crossing Guard is on duty and slow down when approaching school zones.
- Obey the law. Remain stopped until all children and the Crossing Guard have exited the roadway.
- Proceed with caution and obey the speed limit at all times.
