Emergency personnel were called just before 10:30 Saturday morning for what was reported as a derailed train near Main Street West, just east of King Street in Port Colborne. It was determined a train with 14 attached train cars was travelling from the Sugarloaf Mill to the Robinhood Mill when the last three hopper style train cars carrying Ontario wheat became dislodged from the track and tipped over. No injuries were reported. Police say a substantial amount of wheat was spilt in a privately owned parking lot. The Ministry of Environment attended the scene and it was determined there were no environmental concerns. NRP say there is no indication the train tracks had been tampered with. The cause of the derailment remains under investigation.
