The Canada Border Services Agency and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police recently intercepted a human smuggling attempt near the Niagara River, part of Project Disrupt and Deter.
In December 2024, CBSA launched the intelligence initiative to monitor vulnerable areas like the International Railway Bridge. Officers foiled an attempt when an individual jumped off a moving freight train into Fort Erie.
The suspect was arrested and returned to the U.S. after being found inadmissible under the Canada-U.S. Safe Third Country Agreement.
