Province introduces legislation to clear homeless encampments from parks

Ontario is introducing legislation that will help municipalities clear homeless encampments out of public parks.

Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister Paul Calandra said the government has heard concerns from the public.

New measures include stronger trespass laws and fines or jail time for illegal drug use in public. Calandra says encampments pose too many risks to the public to continue the way they are.

An additional $75.5 million will also be invested toward homelessness prevention programs.
