Ontario taxpayers are about to receive a $200 cheque in the mail early next year.
The announcement yesterday from Premier Doug Ford comes a day before the province’s fall economic statement. Ford says the three-billion-dollar plan will see everyone who filed a 2023 tax return receive the cheque — plus an additional $200 per child.
Ford says the government can afford to send out the cheques now because of higher-than-expected revenues. Liberal Leader Bonnie Crombie says she plans to donate her cheque to her party as it gears up for a possible early election. Meantime, Ontario NDP Leader Marit Stiles says the cheques don’t provide any long-lasting help with the affordability crisis for Ontarians.
