When talking about dairy in the Niagara Region, there is one name that stands the test of time – Avondale Dairy Bar.
June 30th, 1995 was the day the dairy bar opened, 14 years after Avondale Dairy was founded by the Stewart family. The family decided to build a ‘bar’ for retail sales of milk and their now-famous fresh ice cream.
In 1969 Beatrice Foods purchased the bar from the Stewart family, before Ray and Deb Sheehan bought it from Beatrice in 1986. They haven’t looked back since.
In speaking with Ray, he says quality has always been the #1 priority, whether it be with their ice cream, pies or other items. Sheehan acknowledges that there are probably other spots that aim to be cheaper, or have bigger cones, but he believes the quality is top notch – and they have the trophies to show for it.
Now almost 70 years since they opened, Avondale Dairy Bars prides itself in raising money through fundraisers, and its involvement with the Rankin Cancer Run.
