Niagara Regional Police are warning residents about an extortion scam circulating in the area.
Scammers are sending emails falsely claiming they have compromising recordings of the recipient, often including personal information like names, addresses, and even Google Street View images to make the threat seem real.
The goal is to scare victims into paying, usually through Bitcoin.
Authorities advise against responding or sending any payment if you receive such an email, as the information is typically gathered from public sources and poses no actual threat.
