Ontario’s border crossings and airports are at risk of significant disruptions if the federal government fails to reach an agreement with border workers by Friday afternoon.
The Public Service Alliance of Canada announced that it still hopes to avert a strike and maintain smooth border operations, but has set a deadline of 4 p.m. Eastern Time on Friday.
Over 9,000 union members employed by the Canada Border Services Agency have been working without a contract for more than two years.
The union recalls that a job action by CBSA personnel three years ago “nearly brought commercial cross-border traffic to a standstill,” causing extensive delays at airports and borders nationwide.
