Niagara IceDogs forward Kevin He has earned himself an invite to the NHL’s Scouting combine, which is running throughout the week in Buffalo ahead of the draft later this month.
Last season with the IceDogs, He tallied 53 points in 64 games, including 31 goals – most on the team.
He, who stands 5’11, 182lbs, appeared on the NHL’s Central Scouting Report as the 78th ranked North American skater in April, up from 89th in the midseason rankings.
He’s poised to become the first China-born player since Andong Song to be selected in the NHL Draft, and perhaps the highest ever. The 18-year-old forward is projected higher than where Song was drafted (172nd overall in 2015). Song never played in an NHL regular season game.
He told NHL.com earlier this year it would mean a lot to him and his family, and he hopes to serve as a role model and inspiration to younger players.
The NHL Entry Draft will be held in Buffalo June 28th and 29th.
