Tonight, the winner of the Kruger Big Assist contest will be announced, which will benefit a minor hockey program in Canada with a $75,000 prize.
One of the finalists is CYO Hockey in St. Catharines, which has been helping kids for decades get into the sport, who may not have been able to otherwise.
President Nikki Chubaty says they help children that can’t afford hockey, as well as new Canadians.

She adds that one of the programs they’d like to start if they win is one that helps get girls into coaching hockey. Chubaty says CYO’s roots with girls’ hockey in the Niagara region run deep.

Renée Rochefort, who runs our Take a Shot and First Shift programs, says they’ll likely be helping more kids than usual this year.
