The Ontario government is giving OPG a hand when it comes to refurbishing their hydroelectric stations in the Niagara Region.
The infrastructure program, valued at roughly $1-billion, would secure up to 1700 megawatts of clean electricity, equivalent to powering 1.7 million homes.
OPG and its partner, GE Vernova, will refurbish up to 25 units in total at the Sir Adam Beck Complex as the first phase of this work beginning in 2025. The work at the complex will take place over the next 15 years, creating more than 200 highly skilled and well-paying jobs, according to Ontario Minister of Energy Todd Smith.
The complex has been producing clean power in the Niagara Region for over a century. OPG is also developing future plans for its DeCew I and DeCew II generating stations in the region.
