The 2024 OHL Priority Selection will be held tomorrow and Saturday, and will see the Niagara IceDogs selecting fourth.
Co-Owner of the IceDogs, Darren DeDobbelaer, says it’s an exciting time of the offseason for them, as well as players that are eligible for the draft.
The IceDogs were guaranteed a spot in the top four of the OHL draft, and slid to the fourth pick after having the best odds at the first overall pick.
The Windsor Spitfires will pick first overall on Friday, and are expected to announce at a press conference Thursday who that pick will be. DeDobbelaer says the order of the three picks before them could change in a heartbeat.
While the first round is getting lots of attention, and rightfully so, the draft will continue on with the second and third rounds on Friday, and the final 12 rounds on Saturday. DeDobbelaer says the second round pick is also an important one for the team, as often times very good players will slide in the draft.
Voice of the IceDogs on Niagara’s New Country 89.1 Ted Lehman says the strategy for the draft should be simple.
Lehman adds that he feels the young core of the IceDogs matured a lot by the end of the season, logging key minutes, which should lead to improvement on the ice in the 2024-2025 season.
The first three rounds of the OHL Priority Selection begins at 7:00pm tonight, and can be followed on the OHL’s website.
