The St. Catharines General Hospital is getting a new name, thanks to a generous donation.
The hospital will be renamed the Marotta Family Hospital, after a donation of $15-million from the Marotta family.
Niagara Health Foundation says this donation will help foster innovation, enhance pre-existing services and upgrade equipment. President and CEO of Niagara Health Lynn Guerriero says this type of community philanthropy is the lifeblood of a hospital, adding that everyone is very grateful.
The Marotta family has owned and operated Solmar Development Corporation, while Angela and Melissa co-founded Two Sisters Vineyards and the soon-to-be-opened Stone Eagle Winery.
