As part of an effort to streamline services, 11 ServiceOntario locations, including Welland, will close.
The closures come as part of an agreement with Staples, where kiosks will be set up to replaces closed ServiceOntario locations.
The government is pointing to various factors for the decision, including the size of Staples locations, lots of parking and better hours, promising a 30% improvement in that regard.
This decision is part of a pilot project announced last month by the provincial government. Employees from impacted private service providers will have opportunities to continue working with Staples.
Other nearby affected locations also include Stoney Creek and Hamilton.
