The first Professional Women’s Hockey League game was this past weekend, and had some local ties on the ice.
St. Catharines-native Alexa Vasko suited up for the Toronto-side, and said she hopes this league inspires the next generation of girls’ hockey players.
Vasko says despite a loss in their first game, she was grateful to be part of women’s hockey history.
The PWHL is a new league promoting the sport of women’s hockey, with six teams taking part in its inaugural season. Teams are located in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, New York, Boston and Minnesota, with each team playing 24 games throughout the course of the regular season.
