ONTARIO – Ontario’s municipal affairs and housing minister has presented a new bill to return land to the protected Greenbelt.
Premier Doug Ford’s previous plan to remove 15 sites from the Greenbelt faced public backlash and criticism from auditors and integrity commissioners. In response, Ford reversed his plan and promised not to take more land from the Greenbelt.
The new bill, introduced by Minister Paul Calandra, will codify Greenbelt boundaries in law, ensuring future changes require legislative approval.
The legislation comes shortly after the RCMP launched an investigation into the government’s Greenbelt development decision.
