Susan Almon runs Paradise Acres Farm in Wainfleet, and she got into the industry by accident. Moving from the city to the country, it started with chickens. From there it grew to pigs, cows and sheep.
At the farm Susan raises Irish Dexter Cattle, an older heritage breed cattle which are strictly grass fed. They are very lean and have what’s called micro-marbling.
The smaller breed makes it easier to gather the cows when they get out of their pen and they are hearty cattle which helps them battle the elements with ease, even though they are provided with shelter.
There are 10 acres of pasture that the cows live on, and Susan is with the cattle all the time. The vet does a yearly visit for the health and wellness of the cows. Any concerns are brought forward to make sure they are healthy.
Susan and Paradise Acres Farm are involved in the Wainfleet Market, and she relies on her regular customers. Beef is sold directly to the customer and through the Wainfleet market.
