With Summer coming to an end, school starts on September 5.
The Niagara Regional Police 23rd Back to School Traffic Safety and Awareness Day is set to deploy senior officers to local school zones.
Officers will focus on the 13 Community Safety Zones near schools this year. The NRPS Traffic Enforcement Unit organizes the annual campaign, aiming to improve road safety around schools.
Community Safety Zones carry increased penalties for offenses.
The newly launched Automated Speed Enforcement Program will also be active in these zones, alongside efforts against distracted driving and seat belt infractions.
Student buses will also resume, equipped with cameras to catch those not stopping for loading buses.
