The RONA Foundation will present $125,000 to Port Cares in Port Colborne, as part of its new Build from the Heart program.
Launched on May 11 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the RONA Foundation, Build from the Heart aims to support NPOs in carrying out projects to revitalize a living environment or make it easier to access housing for Canadian populations in need. Following a call for applications that resulted in more than a hundred applications, a selection committee chose the projects of six NPOs from provinces where RONA has stores. These organizations will share a total of $500,000.
In Ontario, the committee’s attention was drawn to the A Place to Call Home project of Port Cares. With the funds granted, the organization wishes to build a 41-unit affordable housing development in central Port Colborne.
Christine Clark Lafleur, CEO of Port Cares, says “RONA Foundation’s generous gift to Port Cares’ A Place to Call Home affordable housing project is nothing less than transformative. The ability to provide truly affordable housing to female-led single parent families and low-income seniors through this desperately needed housing project will dramatically improve quality of life and will disrupt generational poverty. The RONA Foundation’s gift will help serve generations of families to come and Port Cares is so grateful for this recognition and support.”
