Indigenous artwork was revealed at St. Catharines hospital depicting Turtle Island and the medicine wheel.
The work was created by artist Delbert Jonathan, with the original piece displayed in the Emergency Department, while reproductions are showcased at other Niagara Health hospital sites.
The artwork symbolizes the balance between mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health, represented by the medicine wheel.
It serves as a visual identity for Niagara Health’s Indigenous Health Services and Reconciliation team, signifying a safe space and the commitment to provide high-quality healthcare for everyone.
Niagara Centre MP Vance Badawey, parliamentary secretary to the Minister of Indigenous Services, attended the unveiling Monday, calling it an important moment for healthcare in this country.
