The District School Board of Niagara has approved a budget of $584,913,491 for the upcoming fiscal year, which is $38 million higher than last year.
This increase is necessary due to a rise in enrollment, with nearly 1,400 more elementary and secondary school students expected.
As part of the budget, the board plans to hire 109 new staff members. Additionally, $75 million will be allocated for new school construction, renovations, and improvements, including projects in Niagara Falls and Wainfleet, as well as the development of synthetic fields and tracks in three schools.
The board will also invest in additional full-time staff, learning resource teachers, multi-language resource coaches, student equity initiatives, and the expansion of the culinary program.
The fiscal year for DSBN runs from September 1 to August 31.
