St. Catharines NDP MPP Jennie Stevens and Toronto Centre MPP Kristyn Wong-Tam are urging for decisive action to address the rising homophobia and transphobia affecting 2SLGBTQI communities in Niagara and across Ontario.
They specifically called on the Minister of Education to exercise their authority under the Education Act and ensure that the pride flag is consistently raised at all publicly funded schools in Ontario during Pride Month.
Stevens emphasized the need for tangible actions, rather than mere words, to support the community.
Instances of intolerance, including vandalism and hate speech directed at schools displaying rainbow flags, have been reported in Niagara during this Pride Month.
